Overview
GAC Group is expanding into NEV infrastructure, planning charging, battery‑swapping and battery‑recycling systems to support its electric-vehicle business. It launched the ‘2⁶ Energy Campaign’ to promote flexible power‑battery use, including one‑time buyout or rental‑based battery swapping, and cascade utilization and recycling across battery life stages. GAC will invest about CNY5 billion to build charging, swapping and recycling infrastructure and will set up a CNY1 billion project company (GAC 55%, NEV unit GAC Aion holds the remainder) to develop smart‑charging and battery‑swapping services, technologies and products. GAC Aion, the company’s NEV unit, debuted its first model in April 2019 and has launched multiple pure electric models since; its 2021 sales reached 124,000 units. GAC Aion completed a CNY2.6 billion A‑round fundraiser that introduced strategic investors with state‑owned enterprise backgrounds and implemented equity incentive arrangements for key employees and researchers. The NEV unit is expected to complete a spin‑off and listing on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange’s ChiNext board by the end of the year at the earliest.
