Guerillapps makes Trash Tycoon, a Facebook social game that tasks players with collecting trash and upcycling it into products while offering realtime synchronous multiplayer play. The game integrates real-world brands and TerraCycle’s sponsorship model so branded items and factories appear organically in gameplay. Guerillapps has partnered with TerraCycle and Treehugger.com and donates 10% of virtual-currency revenues to CarbonFund.org; it also plans a “Play to Offset” integration with CarbonFund partners. Trash Tycoon is in private beta and the team has hired veteran game designers Greg Costikyan and Naomi Clark to strengthen gameplay. Financially, the company recently received $500K in seed funding from Rhodium and is currently in the process of raising a second round. The team plans to extend the Trash Tycoon model into other verticals such as energy, health care, and parenting.
