Guestfriend builds automated chatbots for restaurants by scraping and structuring information already available online (hours, menus, dietary info, etc.) so owners don’t need to design conversational flows. The product supports multiple channels today, including SMS, Facebook, Twitter and Google My Business, with plans to add voice platforms like Amazon Alexa and Google Home. The company is proactively building bots for restaurants and publishers can embed them in listings; restaurants can later claim and update their bots. Founder/leader Bo Peabody, a venture partner and entrepreneur in residence at Greycroft who co-owns the Mezze Restaurant Group, says the company targets verticals that mirror Yelp categories. Guestfriend plans eventual expansion into home services, retail, spas/salons/exercise and hotels. Financially, the startup has raised a $5 million seed round from institutional backers.
