Overview
GuiaBolso is a mobile personal financial service that combines budgeting, credit marketplace and lending features similar to Mint, Credit Karma and Lending Club. The app has 3.5 million users and is described as the largest digital marketplace for credit products in Brazil. GuiaBolso does not hold customer deposits like a bank but can make loans via a $70 million debt facility it raised and through a partnership with one of Brazil’s top‑10 banks. The company has three banks already fully integrated on its credit side, which helps enable real‑time loan approvals. Management plans to use the new capital to ramp up credit financing and further integrate its services into a more seamless financial hub for customers. The raise comes amid Brazil’s broader economic crisis, highlighting continued growth in the country’s digital economy. GuiaBolso is a personal financial management platform that automatically aggregates users' financial information to help Brazilians understand their finances, track budgets, and select curated financial products. Its iPhone and Android apps topped finance-app charts in Brazil and the company recently surpassed 1 million users. The company uses proprietary technology described as unique to Brazil and emphasizes ease-of-use and strong brand-building. GuiaBolso was founded by Benjamin Gleason and Thiago Alvarez, both former McKinsey veterans. The company plans to use new funding to accelerate growth and expand its financial tools and product offerings, targeting five million users by the end of 2016. It is backed by six international venture capital firms and ten Brazilian and American angel investors.
