Overview

Guru is a Philadelphia, PA-based provider of a collaborative knowledge management software platform. Led by CEO Rick Nucci, the company offers an empowerment network platform that leverages AI to improve sales, support, and customer-success teams by sharing and operationalizing knowledge. The product centers on operationalizing institutional knowledge across those teams to improve information access and workflows. On 22 April 2020 Guru raised $30m in a Series C funding round led by Accel with participation from Emergence Capital, Thrive Capital, FirstMark Capital, Slack and MSD Capital. The company intends to use the funds to continue to expand operations and its business reach. Guru provides an information-sharing platform that sits as a Chrome-extension layer and auto-surfaces relevant content to employees. Its tools are used by customer service agents and sales teams to answer external questions quickly and accurately. In July the company launched AI Suggest, with text and voice versions that surface information without searches or inquiries. Organizations can customize integration access and data-retention settings on Guru, and the platform does not store personally identifying information about end-customers. Guru counts customers such as BuzzFeed, Glossier, Intercom and Thumbtack, has signed 200 new clients since AI Suggest’s launch, and now serves around 800 companies representing thousands of users. The company says it is hyper-focused on growth and is not yet profitable. Guru launched in 2015 as a Chrome extension to give revenue and customer service teams immediate access to company information via “cards” authored by internal teams. It has since expanded to a web app and a Slack bot and now bundles new features including AI Suggest, Sync, and impact analytics. AI Suggest surfaces relevant company information in the Chrome extension without requiring a prior search and learns users’ search patterns over time. Sync lets users access knowledge stored in wikis, intranets or other web apps without migrating it into Guru, and impact analytics in the web app shows where knowledge is being used and where gaps exist. These features are described as part of a scaling plan supported by a $9.3 million Series A raised last summer with new investor Emergence Capital and previous backers FirstMark Capital and MSD Capital. Guru also plans to expand its product into other areas of company knowledge management, including HR and IT. Guru provides an enterprise-class knowledge-sharing platform that captures and shares the knowledge teams need, integrates it into their workflows, and automatically keeps content current by having subject-matter experts verify accuracy. Founded in November 2013 and based in Philadelphia, PA, the company serves over 200 customers, including Fundera, CapTarget, and RJMetrics. Guru recently raised a $2.7M seed round and says it will use the proceeds to continue product development and expand operations. The platform emphasizes embedding verified knowledge into team workflows to ensure operational consistency and up-to-date information. The articles do not disclose revenue figures.
