GWA Hygiene
Stralsund, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany
Overview
GWA Hygiene, founded in 2015 and based in Stralsund, Germany, develops NosoEx®, an IoT‑based electronic monitoring system and digital assistant for hand hygiene and infection control in hospitals. NosoEx provides detailed data reports on disinfection of equipment and the general environment and can integrate sensor technology into existing hospital infrastructure. The company employs more than 30 people and has run pilot projects, including a 2021 neonatal ICU pilot, with NosoEx projects already running with partners in several European countries. GWA positions its technology as a response to rising hospital infections and staff shortages by optimizing hygiene processes to allow more time for patient care. The company says fresh capital will be invested in further development of digital hygiene solutions, sales, and intensified roll‑out across Europe. Prior funding includes investments from MIG Fonds and High‑Tech Gründerfonds, the latter having invested several million euros since 2018. GWA Hygiene has developed NosoEx, an IoT monitoring system that measures hand hygiene by fitting sensors to existing disinfectant dispensers and reporting disinfection figures by station, dispenser and occupational group. The software integrates with health-facility infrastructure to track and display hygiene metrics. The system has passed practical tests and is already used across around 70 wards in 10 hospitals, with a double-digit number of customers in the DACH region. The company is in talks with about 50 other hospitals and hospital operators and is preparing a Europe-wide roll-out. GWA intends to use the new funding to establish a sales organization to accelerate commercial adoption. The startup was founded in 2015 and has 21 employees, led by Founder and Managing Director Maik Gronau alongside founding partners Tobias Gebhardt, Dirk Amtsberg, Marcel Walz and Daniel Neuendorf.
