Overview
H2Pro develops E-TAC (electrochemical-thermally activated chemical) technology that splits water to produce green hydrogen while eliminating the costly membrane used in conventional electrolysis. The E-TAC process separates hydrogen and oxygen production into different steps, which the company says yields a more compact system, higher efficiency (over 95%), and lower power consumption versus traditional electrolysis. Founded in 2019 by researchers from the Technion and entrepreneur Talmon Marco, H2Pro is based in Caesarea, Israel. The company aims to reach a target production cost of $1 per kilogram of green hydrogen in the second half of the decade and plans to use new funding to set up manufacturing. H2Pro develops electrolysers that split water into hydrogen and oxygen using a two‑step process: electrochemical hydrogen production at a nickel‑based cathode and thermal release of oxygen by flooding the cell with a hot liquid. The company says this approach can cut the electrical energy needed and aims to produce green hydrogen for $1 per kilogram by the second half of the decade. So far its lab prototype produces roughly 100 grams of hydrogen per day, and H2Pro expects a larger model capable of about 1 kilogram per day. The announced $22 million funding is intended to move the technology from laboratory prototyping to factory‑scale electrolysers. H2Pro plans to build a first factory in Israel and estimates it could be producing at the hundreds‑of‑megawatts scale by 2023 if timelines hold. The company was founded in 2019 and is based in Caesarea, Israel. Competition includes established electrolyser and industrial players such as ITM Power, Nel Hydrogen, Siemens Energy and Thyssenkrupp.
