H55
Route de L'Aéroport 10, Sion, Valais, 1950, Switzerland
Overview
H55 develops certified electric propulsion systems, battery packs and energy management solutions for aviation. The company raised CHF65M in Series C financing to fund expansion and product work. It plans a North American expansion that includes manufacturing at a Montreal facility and engineering customization with partners such as Pratt & Whitney Canada, CAE and Harbour Air. H55 finalized all EASA certification requirements for its battery packs and had its Energy Storage System Compliance Check List approved in March 2024. Rigorous testing validated the safety and performance of the battery pack, positioning H55 to support aircraft integrations. The company expects its battery packs to be ready for integration into CS-23 aircraft starting early in 2025. H55 provides electric propulsion systems designed to enhance sustainability, efficiency, and safety in the aerospace sector. The company develops electric and hybrid propulsion solutions and battery systems aimed at the emerging electric aviation market. Led by CEO Martin Larose and Executive Chairman André Borschberg, H55 is commercializing its technologies and pursuing Type Certification (TC) by 2024. The firm plans to expand manufacturing, including a new factory in Montreal, move to semi- and automated production in its Swiss and Canadian facilities, and open a subsidiary in Toulouse, France. The CHF 45M Series C financing will be used to accelerate commercialization and support these infrastructure investments. H55 develops certified electric propulsion and battery management solutions, focusing on the entire propulsion chain from energy source and management through thrust, power and pilot interface. The company has developed a certifiable modular battery system intended for use in new electric aircraft concepts and designs. Its roadmap starts with electric flight trainers and progresses to propulsion systems for 4–6 seaters, commuter aeroplanes and VTOL aircraft. H55 plans its first product to be used by aircraft manufacturers to provide electric flight trainers to pilot schools by 2022. The company was created in 2017 as a technological spin‑off from Solar Impulse by André Borschberg, Sébastien Demont and Gregory Blatt. The recent CHF20 million financing, including a Canton of Valais grant, will fund expansion of operations and the engineering team and support certification efforts.
