Hallux is an investigational-stage pharmaceutical company based in Laguna Hills, Calif., developing a biodegradable micro-insert for subungual delivery to treat distal lateral subungual onychomycosis. Its proprietary dosage form delivers high concentrations of terbinafine hydrochloride directly and selectively to the site of infection over time. Pilot study results were described as encouraging and suggest the subungual treatment procedure is safe and well tolerated. The company plans a series of single-site clinical studies commencing in the first half of 2016 and intends to advance the product into phase 2A trials.
