Overview

Hang builds software that lets consumer brands replace conventional loyalty schemes with non-fungible tokens that act as dynamic membership passes. Each customer receives an NFT that can "level up" as they buy products, attend events or otherwise interact with the brand, unlocking progressively richer perks. Because the NFTs are on-chain and transferable, members can later sell their status, creating a liquid market that CEO Matt Smolin believes aligns incentives for both brands and consumers. Early adopters include Budweiser, Bleacher Report, Pinkberry and music-festival organizer Superfly, indicating traction across food, beverage, media and live-event verticals. Smolin argues that rising customer-acquisition costs are forcing brands to rethink loyalty, and that blockchain infrastructure offers a more flexible, engaging alternative to points-based systems. The company’s vision is to "shepherd in a new relationship between consumers and brands" by turning status tiers into tradable digital assets. No revenue or user figures were disclosed in the article, but the firm is positioning itself to capture budget from large consumer brands looking for next-generation retention tools.
