Happier Camper
2960 Marsh Street, Los Angeles, California, 90039, United States
Overview
Happier Camper develops the patented Adaptiv™ modular conversion system for vans and campers, featuring removable cubes such as coolers, sinks, toilets, bunk beds, tables, chairs, refrigerators and cooking surfaces. The system is designed to be easy to move and durable for outdoor and camping use, enabling multiple customized layouts for cooking, storage and sleeping. Since launching in 2016, the Los Angeles–based company has built community around its products and reports an uptick in demand to reconfigure existing trailers and vans. The company says the strategic investment from Camping World will substantially increase its ability to produce at scale and expand trusted service and distribution across North America. Under the partnership, Adaptiv™ products will be delivered to Camping World SuperCenters, which will serve as design, install and renovation centers beginning in 2022. Customers will also have access to Good Sam membership services, including roadside assistance and TravelAssist insurance, through the exclusive distributor arrangement. Happier Camper is an L.A.-based manufacturing startup that builds small, colorful fiberglass travel trailers with modular, reconfigurable interior cubes. Models include a 75-square-foot camper and units that start around $25,000 and go up to $50,000 depending on model and options. The trailers are lightweight and designed to attach to almost any four-cylinder car, positioned as easier to tow than traditional RVs and Airstreams. Demand surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, producing a six-month waitlist and rising orders as travelers seek safer road-trip options. The company closed a $3.7M funding round to help fulfill backorders and is already planning a follow-on raise. Co-founder Ryan Edwards said the round was led by angel investors and small boutique firms, though specific investor names were not disclosed. Happier Camper designs, markets and builds compact, modular campers and related products aimed at consumers who value function, style and affordability. Since launching in 2016 the company has focused on vertical integration to ensure quality and control while building a community around its products. The brand emphasizes a direct-to-consumer model as central to its approach and has worked on e-commerce strategy with partners. Current plans tied to the new investment include enhancing its e-commerce and DTC platform, adding a consumer financing option and building a custom digital configuration tool. Sortis and its partners aim to help drive market adoption into new consumer segments and scale demand and revenue. The RV market context is favorable: the industry saw heightened demand during the COVID-19 outbreak, with Bloomberg reporting RV shopping rose as much as 30% at some dealerships year-over-year.
