HashTip is a mobile app and social network that enables moms to share tips about kids’ products, activities and bargains. The app augments tips with pricing and reviews from Amazon, ratings from Yelp, and pulls deals from aggregator sites. Users can authenticate and post tips to Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag “#tip” to share with the HashTip community. HashTip began as an online service that debuted this spring and subsequently narrowed and rebuilt its product to focus specifically on mothers. Founders Vikas Gupta and Rohit Vashisht launched an iPhone-first app after discovering they were missing more than 50% of traffic without a mobile application. The product targets mothers with children 10 years old and younger, and the iPhone app complements the website; the app is a free download on iTunes. HashTip is backed by $200,000 in angel funding.
