Haven

25 Kearny Street Suite 304, San Francisco, California, 94108, United States

Overview

Haven operates a full-service logistics platform that helps consumer-packaged goods companies, food producers, and commodity traders automate ocean freight procurement. Shippers submit bids and receive comparative price quotes from a range of carriers through the platform. The company says it can save small businesses about 20% on freight costs and that savings for larger firms could be in the billions. Founded in 2014 and based in San Francisco, Haven is expanding internationally and recently opened a European headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. The new capital will be used to expand operations in Europe and Asia, hire more salespeople and designers, and further develop the product offering. To date the company has raised $14 million in venture capital. Haven provides shippers a private online marketplace to compare and purchase container slots from ocean carriers, streamlining quoting and reservations. The platform aggregates 600,000 sailings across 1,500 ports and receives regularly updated rates and schedules from half of the top 20 carriers. Haven charges a flat fee per TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) as its primary monetization. Demand is strongest from Asia, Europe, and Latin America, with most customers in apparel, electronics, and high-value agriculture. The company launched on March 2 and is based in San Francisco and Singapore. Founders include Matt Tillman and Jeff Wehner, the latter having supply-chain experience at Apple and Nest. Haven plans to launch carrier marketing tools later this spring.
