Hbox Therapies is an Aachen, Germany-based MedTech startup developing an innovative treatment method for patients with lung failure. The company has developed a Hyperbaric Blood Oxygenation (HBOX) technology that facilitates lung-protective treatment by enabling exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen at increased pressure and with much smaller blood volumes. HBOX is designed to be less invasive, allowing patients to be awake and breathe spontaneously during treatment, and can be combined with established non-invasive or invasive mechanical ventilation. The company positions the technology to be used earlier than current ECMO procedures. Hbox was founded by Dr. Peter Schlanstein, Niklas Steuer and Dr. Matthias Menne. The startup raised seed funding to develop and test a first prototype and to advance toward clinical trials.
