Overview
Health Wildcatters operates a 12-week, mentorship-driven healthcare seed accelerator that accepts 10–15 startups each fall and provides mentorship, seed funding and other business resources. The accelerator's 2014 class has collectively raised $4.5 million since the program ended in late November. That outcome is similar to the first class, which raised $4.6 million within six months of the program. Individual companies from the class include Silicone Arts Laboratories, which closed a $1.5 million round, and EasyEye, whose team relocated to stay in Dallas to remain close to Health Wildcatters. The collective fundraising report was released just ahead of the accelerator's annual investor meeting, and the program is accepting applications for the 2015 class to be selected in July. Health Wildcatters alumni are a cohort of twelve diverse healthcare-focused startups that completed the program in its first class. Collectively the class raised almost $5M in funding within six months after pitch day. Disclosed financings include Cariloop ($400K), Cloud 9 ($140K), Physmodo (previously Kinesio Kinect) ($500K), and MakeMyPlate ($400K). The accelerator is mentor-driven and provides access to a physician network; startups also benefit from Dallas’s seven hospital groups and a growing number of angel investors. Health Wildcatters says the early traction demonstrates the program is establishing itself among healthcare accelerators and expects increasing investment and job creation in the region. The program is accepting applications for its second cohort, which begins in August, with a June 15, 2014 application deadline.
