Overview
Helbiz offers micro urban mobility solutions—operating e-scooters, e-bikes and electric mopeds—and holds 29 licenses globally. The company says it reached operational profitability in 2020 and that Helbiz Italia reached break-even last September. Helbiz plans to use new financing to renew and strengthen its vehicle fleets as part of its 2020–2022 expansion plan in Italy. The firm has over 200 employees and operates in more than 20 cities, and it completed a merger with SPAC GreenVision on February 9, 2021 to list on Nasdaq. Historically, Helbiz funded fleet expansion through shareholder equity and successive equity rounds, raising approximately $31 million to purchase micro-mobility devices. Management is exploring asset-backed debt structures tied to scooters and e-bikes to finance future investments and better match depreciation profiles. Helbiz operates e-scooters and e-bicycles in over 20 cities worldwide and focuses on proprietary technology to support shared mobility services. The company was launched in 2018 and is headquartered in New York City. Helbiz is committed to running solely on 100% renewable energy with zero carbon emissions. It plans to expand its electric bike offering with a model named “Greta,” which features a 250W motor, a 14 AH battery, up to 80 km range, and a 25 km/h top speed. Phase one of the expansion is a new electric bike sharing service built on its existing e-scooter operations and was scheduled to be accessible to users within weeks of the announcement. Helbiz is leveraging a strategic partnership to scale globally and optimize fleet management via geo-fence–equipped vehicles. Helbiz operates HelbizGO, a dockless e-scooter rental service integrated into a mobile app that allows users to geolocate, rent and unlock scooters. Its scooters feature on-board connectivity and proprietary software and hardware, and the company uses a customized fleet management platform, artificial intelligence, environmental mapping and advanced analytics to optimize operations and maximize vehicle life. Helbiz captures anonymized ride, rider, scooter and personnel data to deploy, monitor and reposition its fleet to meet demand and reduce operational costs. The company is operational in Milan and Malaga and runs pilot programs across Italy, Spain and several other countries, with offices in New York, Milan, Madrid, Belgrade and Singapore. Helbiz intends to use new proceeds to expand its scooter fleet, enter new territories and for working capital while preparing for an intended NASDAQ IPO and a potential dual listing on AIM Italia. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in New York, Helbiz says it is the established market leader in Italy and aims to further international expansion and broaden its micromobility offerings.
