Overview

Helical Fusion is developing a Helical Stellarator approach to achieve commercially viable fusion energy and was founded in 2021 as a spin-out from the National Institute for Fusion Science. The company’s Helix Program frames development around achieving net electricity, continuous operation, and high maintainability, and it is building toward an Integrated Demonstration Device called Helix HARUKA and a planned first commercial plant, Helix KANATA, in the 2030s. Manufacturing and construction are underway for magnet demonstration work at a Helical Fusion workspace on the NIFS campus in Toki, Gifu. Helical Fusion has established the Helix Program Official Partners framework to bring long-established industrial companies into active collaboration and capital commitment. Financially, the company completed a Series B first close raising about JPY 2.7 billion and reports total funding to date of approximately JPY 9.8 billion including grants and loans.
