HelloAva offers a chatbot (AVA) that guides users through a 12-question assessment and a photo upload to classify them into one of 30 skin types and recommend specific skin care products. The questionnaire was developed with dermatology resources from Mt. Sinai Hospital, and users are routed to a human advisor who validates recommendations and can complete checkout. HelloAva hosts its own checkout experience and holds inventory rather than redirecting customers to brand sites. At launch the company is working with a subset of brands (about 250 products), largely emerging and Korean beauty suppliers, with L'Oréal among the partners. The service is available via SMS, Facebook Messenger, and a web app being launched at TechCrunch Disrupt NY. The company began as a Stanford GSB class project after interviewing more than 300 women and is co‑founded by CEO Siqi Mou and CTO Bob Caslin. HelloAva is New York–based and has raised $300,000 in angel funding.
