HeMemics Biotechnologies, Inc.

401 Professional Dr Ste 220, Gaithersburg, Maryland, 20879, United States

Overview

Hememics develops a handheld, multiplexed biosensor platform designed to deliver lab-quality testing at the point of need. Its rugged system pairs a portable reader with a single-use biochip containing 32 individually programmable graphene-based sensors and patented biopreservatives. The sensors can be programmed to detect molecular, antigen, and antibody targets. The company positions the platform for use cases ranging from farms to emergency rooms and battlefields. Hememics recently closed a $2M Seed 2 financing with participation from existing investors and the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) to accelerate growth. Led by CEO John Warden, Jr. and co-founder, president and CSO Dr. David Ho, the company intends to use the funds to pursue early commercial success. Hememics Biotechnologies, based in Rockville, Maryland, is developing a handheld device with a multiplex panel chip that rapidly tests blood samples to detect bacteria or proteins in under a minute. Its initial product, named HEMEMICS, is a point-of-care panel aimed at testing for sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HPV. The company says its proprietary platform is protected by three patents and that the device does not require refrigeration. Hememics plans to use the new funding to begin clinical research as part of a U.S. Food and Drug Administration submission for its flagship product. The startup previously participated in the Inova Personalized Health Accelerator, an initiative of Inova Health System, in 2017. Company leadership quoted in the announcement includes CSO and cofounder David Ho and CEO and cofounder John Warden.
