Her is a rebranded version of Dattch that shifted to a match-based communication model where conversations start only when both parties have liked something on a user’s profile. The app emphasizes editorial content, curating event and activity ideas and working with local event partners and journalists to produce community pieces. Founder Robyn Exton said the new name better reflects the product’s evolution and avoids prior misinterpretations of the Dattch name. Her is available in the UK, Ireland, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Miami. The platform reports half a million matches made and noted that roughly 75 percent of interactions on the old app followed the mutual-like pattern, which informed the redesign. The team continues to focus on connecting queer women both through the app and offline events. Dattch builds a Pinterest-style, photo-first dating app tailored to lesbian, bisexual and bi-curious women, with profiles presented as tumbling image boards to surface contextual cues rather than text. The product emphasizes heavy photo browsing, image-imported context for conversation starters, and a text-based messaging feature. A core focus is reducing fake male profiles via manual profile validation, Facebook Connect and temporary phone-call verification, with plans to automate verification in future releases. Dattch ran a six-month private beta capped at 1,000 users and has opened a public beta; user numbers are now in the "thousands" and the company targets tens or hundreds of thousands by year end. It is targeting London initially with small marketing efforts in Brighton, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, and plans a city-by-city U.S. rollout next year, an Australia roadmap, and potential expansion to China. The startup is part of Wayra London’s incubator cohort, which invested €40,000 as part of the program.
