Here Not There Labs is a remote startup building Towns, a near real-time group chat protocol and app that enables online communities to create decentralized hometowns on the internet. Towns features a fully decentralized, end-to-end encrypted chat protocol that allows community members to own their town squares. The company will steward the product initially while progressively transitioning governance and control to the Towns DAO as it decentralizes the network. Here Not There Labs raised $25.5m in a Series A to support expansion of operations and development efforts. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz via a16zcrypto, with participation from Benchmark and Framework Ventures. The funds are intended to help scale the team and accelerate product development for the Towns protocol and app.
