Overview
Hero Labs is building Sonic, an ultrasonic smart leak-defence device that "listens" to pipe vibrations to monitor water flow and detect anomalies. Sonic uses machine learning to distinguish appliances, taps and toilets, build a baseline of normal usage and identify leaks; it can automatically shut off the water supply to prevent damage. The company raised a £2.5M seed round and received a £300,000 EU innovation grant to accelerate development and bring Sonic to market. A full launch is planned for later this year, targeting homeowners, landlords, facilities managers, property developers and small businesses. Hero Labs was founded in 2018 by Krystian Zajac, who previously exited Neos, and is based in London. The founder says the product also aims to reduce environmental waste and lower insurance losses caused by leaks.
