Hextronics builds an integrated drone-in-a-box platform combining hardware, software, and an autonomous drone battery-swapping system. Its customers include first responder organizations and infrastructure operators in sectors such as railway, oil, and gas. The company has iterated on its product—reducing battery-swap time from eight minutes to two—and has grown to around 30 employees, including summer interns from Carnegie Mellon, Vanderbilt, Stanford, and local high schools. Hextronics recently closed a $2M seed round from Founders Fund after operating as a bootstrapped business. The founders plan to use the capital to further develop and refine systems, tighten processes, and build certification processes for customers. The company also aims to help customers navigate regulatory hurdles by assisting with waiver paperwork to enable operations beyond line of sight.
