Overview

Human Immunology Biosciences (HI-Bio) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company in San Francisco focused on discovering and developing precision medicines for patients with severe immune-mediated diseases (IMDs). Its lead candidate is felzartamab, a monoclonal antibody targeting CD38 that was in-licensed from MorphoSys and is being advanced across indications including antibody-mediated rejection (AMR), IgA nephropathy (IgAN), lupus nephritis (LN) and primary membranous nephropathy (PMN). Felzartamab has received Breakthrough Therapy Designation and Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in PMN. HI-Bio has also initiated a clinical study of HIB210, an anti-C5aR1 candidate targeting neutrophil activation and chemotaxis. The company intends to use the funds from the recent financing to advance felzartamab through clinical readouts in multiple indications and to prepare for registrational studies. The company is led by CEO Travis Murdoch. Human Immunology Biosciences (HI-Bio) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing precision medicines for people with immune-mediated diseases. The company launched with $120M in financing and was incubated by Arch Venture Partners and Monograph Capital, with participation from Jeito Capital and other institutional investors and family offices. HI-Bio’s clinical-stage assets include felzartamab, an anti-CD38 antibody being tested for membranous nephropathy (MN) and IgA nephropathy (IgAN), and HIB210, an anti-C5aR1 antibody currently in Phase 1 safety testing with further IMD studies planned. Felzartamab is believed to deplete plasmablasts and plasma cells to remove disease-causing autoantibodies and is positioned as a potential best-in-class therapy for autoantibody diseases. Both programs were in-licensed from MorphoSys in June 2022, with HI-Bio holding exclusive worldwide rights except Greater China (and except Greater China and South Korea for HIB210); the MorphoSys transaction included a 15% equity stake in HI-Bio, milestone payments and single-to low-double-digit royalties on net sales. HI-Bio is also advancing discovery programs targeting mast cell dysfunction across additional indications.
