HiberGene Diagnostics is a Dublin, Ireland-based company focused on applying molecular technology to infectious disease testing. Its product portfolio includes the HG Meningococcus molecular test, launched in 2015, and the HG Swift platform for running the company’s diagnostic tests. The company plans to develop and commercialize tests for Group B Streptococcus (GBS), Clostridium difficile and Norovirus, all slated for launch in 2016. Financially, HiberGene raised a first tranche of €1.5m as part of an approximately €3.5m Series B. Backers for the tranche included undisclosed private investors in Ireland. HiberGene is led by Brendan Farrell, Chairman & CEO. HiberGene Diagnostics is a Dublin-based medical diagnostics company developing rapid molecular tests for infectious diseases. It is a spin-out from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and is led by CEO Brendan Farrell. The company’s tests are built on LAMP (Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification) enabling technology and are designed to deliver results within ten minutes. The tests are intended for near-patient settings such as clinical laboratories, emergency rooms and delivery wards. HiberGene plans to use the €2m it raised to support commercialization of its first two molecular tests for Meningococcal Meningitis and Group B Streptococcus (GBS). Backers include Kernel Capital through the Bank of Ireland MedTech Accelerator Fund, Enterprise Ireland and private investors.
