Overview

HighLife develops a transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) system for patients with mitral regurgitation. The company's technology is designed for transseptal delivery via the femoral vein, is reversible, and self-locates inside the native annulus. Founded in 2010 by Georg Börtlein, HighLife is based in Paris and also has offices in Irvine, California. The company closed a €32m Series B equity financing round co‑led by U.S. Venture Partners and Andera Partners, with participation from Sofinnova Partners, Sectoral Asset Management and Jose Calle Gordo. It intends to use the funds to complete development of its transcatheter transseptal mitral valve implantation program, including regulatory approval trials in Europe to obtain a CE mark and a first clinical trial in the U.S. via an Early Feasibility Study (EFS). The financing supports advancement toward those clinical and regulatory milestones. HighLife is developing a unique trans-catheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) system that treats mitral regurgitation using a two-step ring-and-bioprosthesis approach. The technology uses an initially placed reversible ring around the native mitral leaflets; once position is confirmed, a bioprosthesis is delivered within minutes through the ring to seat inside the native annulus. The delivery is designed for trans-septal access via the femoral vein and a puncture through the inter-atrial septum, avoiding a trans-apical puncture and reducing trauma by enabling a beating-heart procedure. HighLife is currently recruiting patients in several European countries, including France and Germany, and plans to accelerate enrollment of its initial clinical phase while advancing its R&D pipeline. Financially, the company has closed a €12.3 million investment round led by Sofinnova Partners, with participation from LivaNova PLC and founder Georg Börtlein. Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Paris with offices in Irvine, Calif., HighLife positions its TMVR technology for next-generation clinical adoption.
