Overview
Histogen is a regenerative medicine company led by CEO and Chairman Dr. Gail Naughton. It develops products derived from cells cultured under proprietary conditions, including low oxygen and suspension, that encourage newborn cells to produce proteins and growth factors. Its product portfolio includes a Hair Stimulating Complex (HSC), which the company is continuing to develop. Histogen received a $6m Series D private equity investment to support that development. The company plans to use the funds to advance HSC in the United States and to begin preparations for an initial public offering. Histogen is a San Diego, CA–based regenerative medicine company launched in 2007 that develops solutions derived from products of newborn cells grown under embryonic conditions. Its pipeline includes a Hair Stimulating Complex (HSC) for hair regrowth, a launched skincare line, and a soluble human extracellular matrix (hECM) program with preclinical oncology data. Histogen completed a pilot clinical trial for hair regrowth and planned to begin a Phase I/II clinical trial of HSC in Singapore in Spring 2011. It also planned a clinical study of hECM for the treatment of carcinomatosis mid‑year. The company moved into a new facility to allow up‑scaled manufacturing for upcoming clinical trials and later commercial production. Histogen completed a $10M Series A and is opening a Series B approved up to $23M to further advance its product portfolio.
