Hoken enables forward-selling of hotel room inventory and provides real-time market pricing and insights as rooms are traded. Consumers can purchase a room in advance of an event with flexibility to trade the room if unable to attend or to seek a profit, while secondary buyers gain access to sold-out desirable rooms. Hotels receive a share of trading fees and benefit from higher RevPAR; Hoken charges no commissions or distribution costs and covers transaction fees. The company says its marketplace will launch in the coming days and will initially target large events such as New Year’s Eve in Times Square, Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, Coachella, Art Basel and Firefly. Hoken is led by CEO Tarek M. Daouk. The company intends to use the newly raised funds to accelerate growth, expand operations and broaden its business reach.
