Holiferm develops and manufactures sustainable biosurfactants, having taken its first sophorolipid process from lab to pilot and into commercial production. The company currently produces sophorolipids at a Wallasey commercial plant with a 1.1 KTA capacity. The recent funding will enable installation of new fermenters to increase capacity to about 3.5 KTA by the end of 2024 and further scale to 15 KTA. Holiferm also operates a bespoke R&D facility in Manchester to refine manufacturing methods and trial other biosurfactants. The company plans pilot testing and commercial launches in 2024 for additional products (MELs and rhamnolipids) and aims to drive products toward net zero scope 3. The investment will support scale-up, R&D acceleration and an ambitious hiring strategy to supply major multinational customers.
