Hologate began in 2017 as an entertainment venture and has built what it says is the world’s largest location-based VR network, operating across 42 countries and more than 450 locations and entertaining over 18 million players with IPs such as Ghostbusters and Angry Birds. In 2020 the company expanded into enterprise training and simulations with its HGXR offering, targeting high-risk scenario training for customers including the German Army and various police forces. The core product set spans location-based consumer VR experiences and XR training solutions that replicate visualizations and interactions of real-life scenarios. The company plans to use new capital to grow internationally, with a particular focus on Europe and North America, hire strategically, enter new markets, and develop new products. CEO and founder Leif Petersen framed the round as a move to “supercharge our growth” during the era of spatial computing.
