Founded in late 2018 by long-time friends Andy Aitken and Josh Mihill, Honest Mobile positions itself as a simple, transparent and climate-conscious alternative to incumbent mobile operators. The company started as a bootstrapped operation, with the founders building the backend and front-end from their bedrooms before landing external capital at the end of 2020. Honest’s core offering is its ‘Smart SIM’ and backup eSIM, designed to deliver strong signal, free roaming and seamless switching across hundreds of networks. The business has grown from roughly 8,000 customers and just over £1 million in turnover when it appeared on BBC One’s Dragons’ Den to more than 60,000 UK customers today. Revenue-generating traction enabled the firm to hire a team of 20+ employees and shut down its B2B arm to double down on consumer growth. Future plans include rolling out Smart SIM internationally, starting with a U.S. waitlist, and adding features that optimise global connectivity. To date, Honest Mobile has raised approximately £6 million in funding.
