HotelOnline offers e-commerce and digital-marketing products to hospitality customers, serving over 1,500 hotels in 18 markets across Africa and South Asia. The company was launched in 2014 by Norwegians Håvar Bauck and Endre Opdal (originally as Savannah Sunrise) and formed its current entity after a 2017 merger with a Polish firm. HotelOnline’s shareholder base totals 68 investors from countries including Norway, Nigeria, Senegal, Kenya and Poland, and the founders together hold a combined 49% stake. Recent governance changes include Shravan Shroff joining the board and Nnamdi Agbim joining as an advisor, with Eric Osiakwan representing the Senegalese shareholder group. BusinessWorld reported that HotelOnline is currently breaking even. The company’s investor mix includes individual business angels, a US traveltech firm, a Polish VC and Norwegian family office Stratel, among others.
