Housejoy operates an on-demand home services marketplace offering cleaning, plumbing, electrical/appliance repairs, beauty, fitness, laundry, pest control and related services. The startup is less than a year old and is currently available in 11 cities across India. It plans to expand to 25 cities by the end of next year. Housejoy raised a $23M Series A led by Amazon and had previously raised $4M. The company plans to use the funding to ramp up quality-assurance protocols for its service providers and to pursue strategic acquisitions, allocating roughly 10% (about $2M) of the round to acquisitions or acquihires. CEO Saran Chatterjee said Amazon participated as a financial investor and that the involvement could unlock potential partnerships around fulfillment and ongoing maintenance, though any partnership is not automatic.
