Humanyze
867 Boylston Street – Suite 500, Boston, MA, 02116, United States
Overview
Humanyze offers a high-tech employee badge (with microphone, accelerometer and Bluetooth) and a digital-only service that aggregates digital signals with company KPIs via its Wyze dashboard. The badge and platform are used to generate aggregate insights for managers while individuals retain access to their own data. The company spun out of the MIT Media Lab in 2010 and says a large Fortune 50 customer used its tools to redesign workspaces and improve business-unit performance. Humanyze’s digital-only product already has about 50,000 users on its platform. The company is profitable and currently reinvests all profits into enhancing reliability and scalability while maintaining runway. Leadership emphasizes privacy and product design informed by users, with CEO Ben Waber and CPO Michelle Bradbury involved in product development. Humanyze, spun out of the MIT Media Lab in 2010 (originally called Sociometric Solutions), develops a smart employee badge that captures behavioral signals such as movement, interactions and tone of voice. The badge includes a microphone, accelerometer, Bluetooth and other sensors; data are uploaded to the cloud where Humanyze breaks 40 data types down to the six most relevant metrics for each client. Each badge generates about 4GB of data per day; Humanyze links those behavioral metrics to key business dashboards and runs A/B tests to measure impact. The company emphasizes privacy: deployment is opt-in, contracts prevent access to individual data, no content is recorded, and names are stored separately from behavioral data. In pilot work with Bank of America customer service centers, Humanyze reported network cohesiveness up 18%, stress down 19%, turnover down 28% and call completion time improved 23%. The firm has bootstrapped to date and says large customers will pay for the results. It announced Deloitte as a partner and plans to use new funding to hire a Chief Product Officer and scale with additional pilot partners.
