Overview
Hyakusenrenma operates vacation-rental services such as Stay Japan, which markets vacant private houses and rooms, and Tomarina, which offers farmstay experiences with farmers and fishermen. The company secured about $13 million (1.4 billion yen) from AID Partners Capital Holdings, Keio Corporation and the Cool Japan Fund. Prior funding includes 200 million yen from World Innovation Lab in July 2014 and an undisclosed amount from Gaiax in November 2015. Hyakusenrenma said it will use the latest funds to turn its vacation rental sites into a multilingual environment so foreign visitors can more easily access the service. The raise comes amid rising inbound tourism and concerns about short-term stay shortages ahead of the 2020 Olympics. The Japanese government is looking to encourage “authorized” services like those Hyakusenrenma offers.
