Hybar
1 Green Way, Osceola, Arkansas, 72370, United States
Overview
Hybar is developing a technologically advanced, environmentally sustainable steel rebar mill that uses recycled scrap metal as feedstock. Its first mill in Osceola, Arkansas is expected to begin operations in less than a year and will be powered by an adjacent 105 MW solar field and battery storage facility plus a special rate contract with Entergy Arkansas. The mill will produce a full complement of high‑yielding steel rebar targeted primarily at large infrastructure projects, including those supported by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act. Hybar is pursuing a strategy of building and operating a portfolio of energy‑efficient sustainable steel mills. The company is exploring green hydrogen production and the substitution of its steel slag for cement in concrete construction materials as part of its sustainability roadmap. Recent strategic capital commitments support its near‑term buildout and growth plans. Hybar is building a scrap-metal recycling steel rebar mill designed to reduce energy use and limit greenhouse gas emissions compared with older North American rebar mills. The company will produce a full complement of high-yielding rebar primarily for large infrastructure projects, including those supported by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act. The mill is being built on a 1,300-acre greenfield site in northeast Arkansas with direct barge, rail and truck access and is expected to take 22 months to construct. Hybar plans to produce 630,000 tons of rebar annually with approximately 154 employees (about 4,090 tons per employee). Key mill technology, including the water treatment facility, is being supplied by SMS group and the substation by Primetals Technologies. The company intends to use raised funds to build, start up and operate the mill.
