Hydrostor
333 Bay Street, Suite 520, Toronto, Ontario, M5H 2R2, Canada
Overview
Hydrostor builds and operates utility-scale, long-duration energy storage systems that store energy for eight hours or more by compressing air and using water as a balancing medium. Its patented A-CAES platform allows grid operators to replace retiring fossil generation and integrate higher shares of intermittent renewables. The company operates a commercially contracted facility with Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator and is advancing two late-stage projects in Kern County, California and Broken Hill, New South Wales. Beyond those, Hydrostor reports a development pipeline exceeding 7 GW of early-stage projects across Australia, Canada, Europe and the United States. Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Toronto, the firm maintains offices in Melbourne and Denver. Institutional investors such as Goldman Sachs Alternatives, CPP Investments and Canada Growth Fund back the company, providing capital to fund its global build-out. Its current financing activities include a US$55 million credit facility to progress the 200 MW Silver City Energy Storage Centre in Australia.
