Overview
HyLight develops the HyLighter, a hydrogen-fuel-cell airship–drone hybrid that combines the control of a drone with the endurance of an airship for precise, zero-emission inspections. The aircraft stores hydrogen inside its envelope to provide lift and fuel, enabling flights of up to 10 hours, ranges over 350 km, and speeds around 35 km/hr. It integrates HD cameras and sensors (LiDAR, thermal, infrared) for detailed data collection, reporting, and predictive maintenance. Since its 2022 founding, the company has run commercial pilot programmes and signed €100,000 in pilot contracts with electricity and pipeline operators. HyLight is an alumnus of Y Combinator and has received support and mentorship from investors and advisers including Ring Capital, Kima Ventures, Collaborative Fund, Marc Tarpenning, and former SpaceX launch director Abhishek Tripathi. The company plans to use recent funding to scale to first large-scale operations and recruit specialists across aviation regulation, embedded systems, hydrogen systems, mechanical engineering, industrialisation, and software development.
