Customers can spend directly from jars using a debit/prepaid card or their phone; Mastercard supplies the payment services for HyperJar’s prepaid card and Modulr manages customer funds as an FCA-regulated embedded payments provider. The company also operates HyperLayer, a B2B offering that gives enterprise clients access to HyperJar’s underlying tech for transactions, rewards and consumer/social functionality. HyperLayer targets banks, asset managers, pension funds, merchants and other enterprises seeking challenger-style consumer features and new revenue streams. Hyperjar plans to use the new financing to expand operations and broaden its business reach. The company is led by CEO Rob Rooney and was co-founded by Mat Megens and Paul Rolles.
