Hyperpublic offers Places+, a free Points of Interest (POI) database and expanded location APIs that the company says are a superset of competitors' data and fresher. It also launched Geo Deals & Events, aggregating local deals and letting developers display offers while keeping 100% of affiliate fees. Hyperpublic sources POI data by continuously monitoring publicly accessible sources and social status updates, and reports high-density coverage in over fifty major cities. Developers can request specific data types and the company will connect with other developers on the platform if the data isn't already available. The startup builds products using its own data (dogfooding) while opening access to grow its datasets. Long term, Hyperpublic plans an ambitious location-based search engine that searches for specific objects rather than just venues, and says it needs large-scale data collection to get there. The company raised $1.2 million earlier this year.
