HyperSat

New York, United States

Overview

HyperSat is a developer of hyperspectral imaging satellites and operates a space-based hyperspectral imaging service that uses a spectrometer on a satellite bus to capture contiguous spectral bands into 3‑D data cubes. The system captures distinctive spectral signatures that enable identification of objects, materials, and processes through machine-to-machine analysis. The company secured an initial $85m equity investment to fund development and launch of its commercial constellation of high-resolution hyperspectral satellites. Led by Founder and CEO Derek Woods, HyperSat is finalizing procurement of two low‑Earth‑orbit satellites capable of imaging 200+ spectral bands with a sub-10 meter ground sample distance; those two satellites are expected to be on orbit in 2020. The first two satellites are intended to form the foundation of an initial fleet of six hyperspectral remote sensing satellites. HyperSat has obtained a NOAA license and plans to serve customers in environmental monitoring, agriculture, oil and gas, insurance, mining, law enforcement, disaster recovery, and defense and intelligence.
