icejam is developing a Playable Data™ Platform that integrates real-time, real-world data streams into free-to-play (F2P) mobile games to enhance gameplay and address engagement and retention challenges. The platform is intended to be the backbone for the company’s games, with its first title scheduled for release later this year. The seed financing will fund continued platform development, prepare the first game for market introduction, and support expansion of the team. icejam plans to open a Toronto location focused on business intelligence and marketing and is aggressively hiring developers, marketing, and business intelligence staff over the next six months. The company was founded in 2014 and operates from Charlottetown, PEI and Toronto, ON. Founder and CEO Stuart Duncan is a former EA studio director and founder of Bight Games, which produced top-grossing F2P titles including The Simpsons: Tapped Out and Trade Nations and exited to EA Mobile. Financially, icejam raised a $3 million (CDN) seed round led by Build Ventures, bringing total capital raised to $3.5 million.
