IDbyDNA develops the Explify software platform, a metagenomics technology that detects, identifies, and interprets microorganisms and their role in human health. The Explify platform identifies more than 50,000 microorganisms and over 3,000 known common and rare pathogens, and includes quantification and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) detection. Explify offers secure data privacy, highly curated and well‑annotated databases, rapid metagenomic analysis, QA/QC applications, custom user interfaces, and automated report generation. The company announced a $20 million Series B to fuel growth of Explify into the worldwide infectious disease and microbiome testing markets and to advance customer adoption via partnerships and newly signed contracts with commercial labs, hospitals, and academic institutions. Proceeds will also support opening a CLIA‑approved commercial laboratory at IDbyDNA’s Salt Lake City facility to enable end‑to‑end clinical microbial profiling, syndromic testing, and next‑generation sequencing. The company operates in San Francisco and Salt Lake City. The company’s core product, Taxonomer, is intended to let clinicians and scientists detect any pathogen in any sample, easing adoption of metagenomics in clinical settings. IDbyDNA plans to further develop its Taxonomer-based DNA search technologies and to launch metagenomics-based clinical tests for infectious diseases. The company says Taxonomer.com was launched in May 2106 and already has registered users from more than 150 academic or government institutions and corporations. Financially, IDbyDNA closed a $9m Series A to support product development and clinical test rollouts. The company was founded in November 2014 by Guochun Liao, Robert Schlaberg, Mark Yandell and Martin Reese.
