IFTTT

923 Market St Ste 400, San Francisco, CA, 94103, United States

Overview

IFTTT provides a platform that lets consumers, developers, startups and enterprises connect apps, services and smart devices through user-built integrations. The company supports integrations with over 600 devices and apps and more than 5,000 active developers build services on the platform. Customers can integrate services including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Twitter, BMW, Samsung, IBM, MyQ and Verizon across smart home, connected car and social media use cases. Founded in 2010 by CEO Linden Tibbets and based in San Francisco, IFTTT has raised $63m in total funding to date. It raised $24m in a round led by Salesforce Ventures with participation from IBM, Chamberlain Group and Fenox Venture Capital. The company intends to use the funds to hire talent and expand its platform. IFTTT provides a simple automation layer that gives people control over how their Internet-connected services and devices communicate via "If this, then that" rules. Launched in 2010, the product has expanded from a bare-bones offering to support more than 125 channels, including integrations with Nike, Square, ESPN, Nest, Jawbone, eBay and Microsoft. The platform hosts over 14 million personal recipes that are triggered 15 million times a day. The company positions itself as an IoT play and says current functionality is just the tip of the iceberg. IFTTT plans to turn on its first revenue stream by introducing premium accounts and premium features requested by users, such as supporting multiple Twitter or Instagram accounts. Financially, it has just closed a $30 million Series B and has raised $39 million in total to date. IFTTT provides a channel-and-recipe platform that automates moving content and triggers between web services, apps and connected devices. Users pick from more than 60 channels (e.g., LinkedIn, Dropbox, RSS) and assemble "recipes" that send data or perform actions across services. The product supports actions like uploading files, creating text files, and appending text via channels such as Box and Dropbox, and includes enterprise-focused channels like Yammer. The company reported that customers have created two million recipes and that tens of thousands of recipes have been shared on the IFTTT site. IFTTT plans to extend its channel platform so any service with an API can be added, build a developer community around the platform, and expand its scope from consumer into enterprise and SaaS use cases. Financially, IFTTT raised $7M in the current round and has now received a total of $9M in funding. IFTTT provides a simple interface for connecting two online services by choosing a trigger and a resulting action, producing shareable automations called "recipes." Examples include saving Instagram photos to Dropbox, updating Twitter from Facebook, and staggered sharing via Buffer. The startup was bootstrapped and has since raised more than $1.5M in a seed round from top investors. It has seen measurable traction: over 500,000 tasks created, roughly 14,000 recipes, and about 90 million tasks triggered to date, currently at a rate of ~1 million triggers per day. The team currently consists of two employees and plans to expand headcount and refine core parts of the service. Longer-term ambitions include integrating with the "internet of things" to connect web services to physical devices (for example, GPS-enabled collars triggering alerts).
