Ike was founded by Jur van den Berg, Nancy Sun and Alden Woodrow after they left Uber in 2018. The company is developing a systems-engineered self-driving truck platform focused on reliable, highway-only autonomy while human drivers handle non-highway segments. Ike licensed Nuro’s autonomous vehicle software stack (a hard fork) and acquired related IP, hardware designs, software, maps, simulation and core infrastructure; Nuro holds a minority stake. The team emphasizes designing vehicle architecture and durable hardware first (wire harnesses, alternator, steering column, sensors) alongside computer vision and deep learning, then validating before public-road testing. Ike has roughly a 30-person team and plans to expand following its recent funding. The company intends to begin testing on public roads this year with safety drivers and aims for a validated product that can scale rather than a rushing-to-deploy approach.
