Illusense builds an ultra-high-resolution laser-based internal oil and gas pipeline inspection system that creates 3D profiles of pipeline interiors using multiple lasers. The system can traverse hundreds of kilometers at a time and detect wall defects such as dents, cracks and corrosion down to tens of microns. Collected 3D datasets are analyzed to help pipeline operators prioritize maintenance and integrity-management actions. The technology has been developed and demonstrated in a laboratory environment. The $1.6M funding commitment from SDTC will support productization, field testing, instrument manufacturing and commercial deployment. Illusense aims to give operators unprecedented intelligence to target repairs more efficiently and advance zero-leak goals.
