Ily is an all-in-one home communication device with a companion smartphone app that presents a simple family grid for calls, video messages, texts and drawings. The $199 pre-order device includes an 8-inch touchscreen, camera, microphone, speaker, a separate handset, proximity sensors and temperature and air-quality sensors. Ily supports native device-to-device calls, VoIP calls to regular phones and a landline port to replace existing home phones. The device runs a pared-down Android fork called Family OS and includes a family photo stream, a music app that can fetch Spotify playlists, and an activity feed. Mobile apps for iPhone and Android will allow non-Ily family members to participate and upload photos. The company has raised $2.4 million to date and has built a team of engineers, with the software team now larger than the hardware team; the company expects to ship Ily this Fall.
