Imagia

301 11th St, Unit 3A, San Francisco, CA, United States

Overview

Imagia develops patent-pending, silicon-based metalens technology that patterns nanoscale structures onto substrates to create flat, wafer-thin lenses that steer light without traditional curved optics. The company’s metalenses can be built directly on top of CMOS devices such as LEDs and image sensors, removing several opto-mechanical alignment steps and enabling new device architectures. Imagia says its prototypes have demonstrated greater than 90% reduction in optical system volume across applications including lightweight AR glasses and holographic displays. The team, led by founder and CEO Greg Kress (a Stanford PhD) and composed of optical physicists and materials engineers, is targeting initial commercial deployment and product development for augmented reality displays and LED illumination. Imagia has a partnership with Pulsar (an AR hardware and optics design firm) to explore applications and is using industry-standard lithography and proprietary silicon optical materials to achieve near‑100% fill factors. The company is currently at the prototype stage and recently closed a seed financing to accelerate development and initial commercialization.
