Overview

Immersive Labs is a platform that teaches cybersecurity skills to employees through gamified exercises. Originating from the CYLON cyber accelerator in London, it was founded by James Hadley, a former GCHQ security researcher and trainer. The company offers enterprise-focused "Cyber Workforce Resilience" solutions and counts customers such as Citi, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Pfizer, Daimler, Humana, Atos and the U.K. National Health Service. Demand for its product has increased as organizations shifted to remote working during the COVID-19 pandemic, raising board- and C-level focus on proving cyber resilience. Immersive has expanded its executive team, hiring Sandra McDevitt as chief human resources officer and Lucian Lui as chief marketing officer, while adding Dave Palmer to the board and naming Jack Huffard chair. Financially, the company has raised a total of $189 million after adding a $66 million round to a prior $75 million Series C. Immersive Labs provides a gamified cybersecurity training platform that teaches corporate employees real-world skills using current threat intelligence and analytics. Its "Cyber Workforce Optimization" product offers board-level metrics and benchmarking to measure organizational cyber skills and crisis decision-making. The company says it is growing at over 100% year-on-year and counts customers including HSBC, Vodafone and the NHS. Founded in 2017, Immersive operates joint headquarters in Bristol, U.K., and Boston, U.S., and currently has about 200 employees. It plans to expand headcount to over 600 in the next two years and to establish operations across APAC and Europe. The company is also a major backer of the charity TechVets, which trains UK military veterans for careers in cyber. Immersive Labs offers a fully interactive, on-demand and gamified cyber skills platform built around browser-accessed, story-driven labs that simulate real-world attacks from basics to reverse-engineering malware. The platform maps organizational capabilities to industry frameworks including MITRE ATT&CK and NIST NICE, and captures user data to analyze internal skill levels and drive targeted improvement. It serves both security specialists and broader business users with challenge-based content informed by threat intelligence. The company reports a 750% year-over-year increase in annual recurring revenues and an employee base of more than 100. More than 100 organizations use the platform, including British Telecom, Bank of Montreal, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, the UK National Health Service and the Metropolitan Police. Immersive Labs plans to use new investment to support expansion initiatives in North America and build on momentum from its new North American headquarters in Boston. Immersive Labs is a cybersecurity skills platform founded by former GCHQ researcher James Hadley that combines up-to-date threat data with gamified learning. The platform uses real-time feeds of the latest attack techniques, hacker psychology and technological vulnerabilities to create short, browser-based "cyber war games" for IT and security teams. Its approach aims to up-skill people within hours of a threat emerging and to help identify and remedy longer-term weaknesses in company security teams. Current clients include global corporates with complex cybersecurity needs such as BAE Systems, Sophos and Grant Thornton. The company says the Series A funding will be used to grow its offering for enterprise IT and cybersecurity teams, including investing in headcount and infrastructure to develop the platform further. It also plans to use the capital to support its go-to-market strategy.
