Overview

Immunai builds a massive Annotated Multi-omic Immune Cell Atlas (AMICA) that combines genomics, epigenetics and proteomics with machine learning to identify drug targets, predict toxic reactions, and forecast patient responses. The company says AMICA is the largest dataset of its kind and reports it has moved from correlative to causal inference in its functional genomic results. Immunai is working with Baylor College of Medicine to develop and refine cell therapies for neuroblastoma and plans to publish a paper showing gene targets that predict therapy response. Founded in 2018, the company has expanded via partnerships with over 30 companies and academic institutions and through acquisitions this year of Dropprint Genomics and Swiss gene-expression firm Nebion. Immunai has about 120 employees, roughly half from tech or engineering backgrounds, and emphasizes an engineering-first approach to build infrastructure able to run algorithms on 100,000 samples. The company intends to use new funding to hire more staff, further enrich AMICA and its backend systems, and shift commercial terms toward success-based payments. Immunai combines a multiomic approach with machine learning to analyze single-cell immune data and deliver analytics at scale. The company has assembled what it calls the largest global database of single-cell immunity characteristics through partnerships with leading immunological research organizations. Its platform has been used to enhance the performance of existing immunotherapies and to identify optimal targets, including a collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine on a cell therapy for neuroblastoma. Co-founders Noam Solomon (CEO) and Luis Voloch (CTO), together with scientific co-founder Danny Wells (SVP of Strategic Research), bring machine learning and immunology expertise to the effort. With new funding, Immunai is moving beyond improving existing therapies to using its data and ML to perturb cells experimentally and discover and develop entirely new therapies. The company emphasizes rapid scaling enabled by advances in compute and its academic and research network. Immunai has developed a vertically-integrated platform for multi-omic single-cell profiling that provides a broad view of the immune system in states of health, disease, and treatment. The platform enables pharmaceutical companies to identify subtle nuances in cell abundances, cell function, mechanisms of action, and biomarkers for toxicity to more accurately measure immunotherapy efficacy. For cell therapies, Immunai partners with cell therapy companies to characterize cellular products' sub-populations in detail before and after infusion. Founded in December 2018 by CEO Noam Solomon and CTO Luis Voloch, the company launched out of stealth to map the immune system for detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Immunai is New York-based and also maintains offices in San Francisco and Tel Aviv. The company plans to use the funding to further develop its technology and business functions and to expand its team of scientists, engineers, and machine-learning experts.
